Quick Silverstone Track Guide
Fri May 28, 2021 4:03 pm
Top Gear E-Racing heads to Silverstone this weekend for the first race of the 2021 Sprint Series. Grand Prix history here starts in 1950 and since then there has been various track layouts and historic moments; none more so than the 1973 GP which ended up with 11 cars crashing out on the first lap. Today’s layout provides us with a high speed, challenging circuit, over a 5.8km distance. Max Verstappen currently holds the lap record here, with a 1:27.097, set in the 2020 edition of this race. With 26 race laps ahead, this is an opportunity to lay down our own history at this fantastic British circuit and get the season underway with a bang.
Track Nature:
High Speed, flowing circuit.
Best Overtaking Opportunities:
Whilst there are many great places to overtake on such a high speed track, the most obvious are T6 (Brooklands) and the Hangar Straight, making it crucial to get a good run out of T14 (Chapel).
Notable Corner:
The most iconic corner set of this track is that Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel complex. Particularly in qualifying, this is where laps are made or broken as it’s the most technical section of the track.
The Schedule for this race is as followed:
Practice will begin at 7.15pm on Sunday 30th May with a slightly longer session of 45 minutes. Drivers will be able to join this session at any time and further invites will be sent out around 8pm. Qualifying is set for 8.10pm and will finish around half past 8, before we begin a 5 minute break. The race will then begin once the 5 minutes is up with a formation lap.
Good luck to all drivers competing this weekend!
