Interview with Aleman Empty Interview with Aleman

Sat May 29, 2021 6:46 pm
Today we sit down with Aleman, the sole Mexican at Top Gear E-Racing. From mentioning his hometown Chihuahua, to his thoughts on that infamous incident with James Laws last Sunday, there is plenty here to fascinate.

Q1) Hi Aleman, it’s great to have you here. I think there’s a lot to get to know about you since your the only Mexican on the grid and I like to start with asking, what’s life like for you in Mexico?

A: It’s great, Mexico is not as the most people think, this country of course there is crime like in every country but the thing is that if you are not on the drug business or any of that stuff, you are pretty much safe, Mexico is a beautiful country where you can talk with any mexican as you are family even you both haven't seen each other never in their lives. We are a country that is proud and we are a family.

Q2) If people were to visit Mexico, is there somewhere in particular that you would suggest that they go and why would that be?

A: I would totally recommend its beaches, but not Cancun. Cancun is beautiful but is more of a American vibe. If you want to feel the Mexican vibe you gotta go to Acapulco or Mazatlan. Mexico does also have amazing monuments in every city you go but maybe i would recommend to go to its main cities (Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City) they are most modernized cities in the country. Finally I have to recommend my city of course (Chihuahua), it is right down of Texas. it's the biggest state of the country but doen't have that much population for its size so it's a very peaceful city without traffic and you gotta see its super deep waterfall and the city views!

Q3) Being the only Mexican on the grid, in some ways could be difficult but at the same time it’s fantastic that your able to represent your country at Top Gear E-Racing. Do you feel like you’ve settled into the group well and how are you finding the league so far?

A: I mean, it is awesome to kind of represent where I am fron on a competitive league such as this one. I don't really feel like i have been or am going to be discriminated. I just ignore that and try to have some fun!. For me my nationality isn't a problem so I don't even think that it is a problem for other guys.

Q4) I know we have spoken before about whether your friends are also into Formula One and you said none of them really are. I suppose it’s good that your part of a community now that shares a passion of yours, is that something your enjoying?

A: I really loved to find a league that is friendly and competitive at the same time and even more with people from the UK. I really like that people and their accent. Hopefully one day I would live in that country, it's one of my goals.

Q5) Now I want to move onto the racing and how you feel last weekend went for you. Were you happy with your race?

A: I was very happy with my qualifying, at the moment i finished my last lap and got on the top 4 I knew I could try to go for podiums for when I saw the times of the other guys and that around 5 people finished without half a second of me I knew it was very competitive. The race was pretty competitive, James was putting pressure on me the final 10 laps, he wad trying to close the gap on me but we were really making the same times every lap. It's great to have competition.

Q6) Also just looking back at last week and the infamous quote from James referring to you as Sergio Perez; what were your thoughts on the whole situation and I have to ask is Perez someone you see as an idol in Formula One?

A: I really know the feeling of trying to be focused on your race and someone comes to you and ruins your strategy or even your race. I knew that James was feeling that, i didn't take that reference as an offence, I just was feeling bad with myself for that crash, that's why I apologized. Sergio Perez for me is a role model because as i said in Mexico we everyone feels like family with each other that's why I am proud of everything he is been achieving and hopefully he does more!

Q7) We are now heading into the Sprint Championship and this week for the first time we have points up for grabs. What are your aspirations for this season?

A: I wasn't expecting too much for thid next race as I have not been really fast on Silverstone even I do love so much this track. But a few days ago i bough finally a pad. And I am finding more pace and got better on this track so hopefully I will be looking for a clean race and a top 7 at least

Q8) Driving for Mercedes in your first season, you must be feeling extremely lucky. Is it a team you were always hoping to drive for and is there maybe any other teams that you hope to drive for one day?

A: Of course I love to have this car with its amazing livery, I would like to make the team be seen as good as in real F1 and I am aiming to acomplish it with my teammate that I have seen he is fast as well.

Q9) I would just like to say thank you very much for joining us in this league it is great to see the grid so full early on. Next season we go from racing 50% distance to the full 100% distance, are you looking forward to that challenge?

A: As I am on a country that is 7 hours delayed to UK time is hard for me to find time as I am a student and it is at 1pm for me but yeah I am looking forward to work it out so I can keep racing on these league and accepting the 100% concentration race

Q10) Finally, before we conclude is there anything else that you would like to say?

A: Would like to thank Callum for inviting me, I am really loving this friendly community and loving the challenge it implies as everyone is really fast. Hopefully I can get more confidence to talk with them as I really liked them just with hearing them on the ps party.

From myself and the rest of the league, I would like to thank Aleman for his time and giving us a great insight into the man behind the wheel at Mercedes this season!
